now that sounds good
I put her down a little after 11 PM, and she was up a little before 2 AM to eat. Not too bad, but we ended up staying up until around 4, which made for a rough start for today.
Strangely, the worst part was watching an informercial for a pillow. B/c of course that's what you're selling to insomniacs too tired to change the channel at 3 in the morning. Whatever pillow they were selling sounded so good if I could have found my phone I think I would have even ordered a couple. But now I can't remember what it was called, can't find any information online, so I'm starting to think it was all a fever dream I hallucinated. I definitely fed the baby, but that's all I can be sure of at this point.
So yeah, I'm so tired and fed up at work I just applied to a job in Gary, IN of all places. Hell, I'm already hoping to hear back from a job in Munster, why not apply to something in Gary. Just get me the fuck out of here already.

Why didn't I learn my lesson
I'm sitting in a garage trying not to doze off before it's time to walk to my second interview today. Apparently I didn't learn anything the last time I said no more two interview days.
At least the first interview was in the AM at UChicago, one I'm really interested in. I brought the enthusiasm and it seemed to go well. And parking downtown let me meet the write for lunch between.
But all I wanted to do at lunch was chug a beer, and all I want tip do now is go to sleep. It's cold I'm tired and I don't really care about this job. Oh well they can't all be winners.
So I'll listen to the radio for a couple more minutes, gut this interview out, and Jane several beers when we're all finally home tonite.

Aaaaaaaaaaand I'm spent
Sunday night I managed to get to bed early, only to be awoken at 11 by a screaming toddler cutting some teeth and not very happy. We ended up on the couch the rest of the night. Last night class didn't even end until 10, I got home right before 11, and had to laugh when I realized I was going to bed later last night than the kid had gotten me up the night before.
I wasn't laughing for long though, b/c he was back up at about 1:30 this morning, and ended up in bed with us. So yeah, I'm fucking exhausted and can't believe people in our school do this on a regular basis. I don't know what I was thinking agreeing to teach a class, and then take one later in the week. Fuck me.

gross
Called the daycare to say he wasn't coming in again, and he's kid #7 out right now, thanks to a hand, foot, and mouth outbreak. Dammit. Not only does it sound like something that would make cattle sick, it probably means he's home again tomorrow. Which is fine, b/c I was going to be home anyway thanks to his 18-month check up, but that also means he's coming with me to the vet too for the dog's senior wellness check. That should be interesting.

so tired...
Even better, I was at the office late last night and slept like crap. Two coffees and a slightly-too-quick bike ride in and I'm ready to call it a day. Good thing it's not even 9:30.

That's kind of sad
A year ago it was 80 damn degrees and I was loving climate change. This year, not so much. ETA: As of noon it's 41 degrees out, I'll take that over below freezing.
I'm a little tired this morning. A certain someone decided to get up around 2:30 this morning and didn't go back to sleep until after 4 AM. Not awesome, but he was really funny about smiling at us just when we were starting to get fed up. He knows how to get away with all sorts of crap.
When the dog and I got back from our walk, I was so tired I threw my keys in the sink and put my travel mug by my bag. I didn't realize what I had done until I couldn't find my keys when I was ready to go. Good times.

I'd buy that for a dollar
What I don't love? A little boy who doesn't understand that getting less than 4 hours sleep is starting to push his father over the edge. But then I realize that I'm honest to god someone's father, and that freaks me out enough to wake me up for a while.

sleep
Seriously, the kid is killing me. Ear infection #3 and no sleep in three days. If ND wasn't number 1 for the next 45 days I would have been killing people on the drive to the pediatricians' office this morning.
This is the face that will haunt my nightmares. If I ever sleep again.

The thing about weddings
And I wouldn't have cared if the NBC sports app wasn't terrible and casinos weren't designed to give you no other option than to gamble by making everything else around you terrible.
Vegas is not my kind of town. See the drinks on the table? One whiskey, one whiskey sour, two waters, $27. Fuck that. Watching the game on my phone b/c the sports book is on the complete opposite end of the casino than the wedding? Fuck that. Bringing my six-month old b/c the rest of the family is coming as well, only we just got him sleeping through the night and now the week after the trip has been a nightmare b/c he refuses to go back to sleeping all night? I can't quite say "fuck that" but yes, that sucks.
Maybe my perspective is skewed but traveling for a wedding has been something I've rarely enjoyed. And Vegas was not one of those times. Add the idea that we're back to poor nights sleep every night since getting back and the longer I'm home the worse this trip becomes.
It's not all bad. The baby started rolling over this week, and even though it's one more thing to watch for it's cool to see him develop. And I am definitely continuing my recent whiskey drinking when I get home tonite.

don't fence me in
The living room is the worst part, as we try to show our place to potential tenants and convince them to imagine the place without stacks of boxes everywhere. When we saw the place it practically looked like an episode of "Hoarders," but we were moving no matter what at that point. The place was cheaper than we had been paying on Belmont & we wouldn't have anyone else in the building. We could see past piles of shit everywhere.Ultimately that might have screwed us a bit, since we had to wait until later in the same day the old tenants moved out to move in, and have only run the place down more in two years. Without the place getting a real cleaning or re-painting two years ago it honestly was quite a shit-hole. Not a huge selling point when we're trying to show the place.
At least there's still room to park the bike upstairs, even if that meant taking the trainer off and putting everything else downstairs. We're literally down to eating frozen meals that we don't need to use pots or pans with for the next two weeks since most of our kitchen is packed. We can at least use silverware, but only with plastic plates we re-use. And I'm already wearing the same shirt for a week at a time since the washer & dryer in the basement suck, so no problem packing up my closet once I didn't have to wear anymore suits for work.I can't complain too much, as we're nearly ready to move and our new place seems great. We just have to last through the end of the month, close, enjoy bike the drive, port most of the small stuff a day or two at a time, and then have movers handle the big stuff. Without driving the dog too crazy, and without cracking under the enormous pressure of buying a place in this market. No sweat.

My dad was in town, but got in Thursday night and crashed on our couch. We dumped our futon when the 2nd bedroom got converted to a trainer/treadmill room so there was literally nowhere for him to be but he was still here from Thursday night through this morning. And it was business as usual Friday, the wife and I still went to work and I rode while he went to the Field. Saturday we went to MSI, yesterday we took a walk to buy some rye and stopped for a few afternoon drinks while the wife worked out. And he got up at 5:30 this morning to head to the train. Not too crazy but enjoyable, at least at parts. So if you heard a crazy-looking older man talking insanely loud in a museum, pizza place, liquor store, microbrew, or just out walking a dog, I'm sorry if you were offended or annoyed. Especially if he was talking about gun control or conceal/carry laws.
But Christ almighty it feels like Friday was a week ago. We slept with the door closed to keep the dog from bothering my dad but she'd still get up every hour to see if she could go out to get pets from him. By the time I was putting my crap together for today I felt so out of it you would think I had taken a 10 day vacation, not a two day weekend.
So it's huge cup of coffee time again. Last week flew by b/c I didn't want the weekend to be here, now I have to convince myself this week can do the same. I have new whiskey to drink this week too, so I have that going for me.
